Thomas Speidel, CEO and founder of ADS-TEC Energy, is being awarded this year's German Environmental Award by the DBU
Nürtingen, Germany, August 29, 2024 – For his groundbreaking achievements in electromobility and the energy industry, Thomas Speidel, CEO and founder of ADS-TEC Energy, is being awarded the prestigious German Environmental Award by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) this year. This recognition is given in light of his successful transformation of the family business and the development of innovative battery-buffered energy systems, ChargeBox and ChargePost. These systems enable ultra-fast charging of electric vehicles in minutes instead of hours, with a charging power of up to 320 kW. In addition, these ultra-fast charging solutions support grid stability and promote efficient resource use through additional business models. The DBU awards this prize annually through a four-stage nomination process in which eligible institutions and individuals can submit nominations. It is not possible to apply for this award. The award ceremony will take place on October 27 in Mainz, where Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will personally present the prize.
Strategic vision and entrepreneurial boldness
"Thomas Speidel is receiving the DBU award for his strategic vision and the entrepreneurial boldness," says general secretary of DBU Alexander Bonde. The climate goals in the transportation sector: around 15 million electric vehicles should be registered in Germany by 2030. To achieve this, the rapid and comprehensive expansion of a high-performance ultra-fast charging infrastructure is necessary, independent of the currently urgent grid expansion, to reach one million charging points. Bonde adds, "For more electromobility, climate protection, and a comprehensive energy transition, innovations like those from ADS-TEC Energy are truly paving the way."
